pumpkin patch take 2

I was internally debating whether or not I should put this picture up since it does have someone else's child in it. I ended up putting it up because as far as I am aware, strangers cannot search for Isaac's blog (although I've had a couple hits from Latvia and Russia lately. Huh?). So we will not name the child. It (ooh look, I'm even being gender neutral :)) is one of Isaac's friends from daycare. The point is that it is probably not possible to get a picture with all the toddlers in it smiling at the same time.

There were a lot more pictures like these two - only one kid smiling each time.

Isaac's daycare class went to the pumpkin patch this last Thursday. One of my sites was not open, so I moved my schedule around so that I could go with them. I was so glad I got to go! It is always fun to get out and do things. The whole 8-5 (or 8 to 5:30 it seems to be lately) thing is starting to get pretty draining. (I think  I actually should be leaving work earlier if I'm going to only work 40 hours per week. The thing is, it doesn't matter because it's a salaried position, so I get paid the same whether I work 40 hours or 50 hours.) Anyway, it was a lovely morning with us and the pumpkins, and Isaac chose a beautiful pumpkin to take home. I think it was the most beautiful pumpkin of all. In fact, I will take a picture of all the winter squash that we currently have in our house. I have been a little squash-obsessed this year and trying new squash has been really fun. Now I want to go back to this farm (Lone Pine) and get a Jumbo Pink Banana squash and a Sweet Meat squash before they close for the season after Wednesday...
A final, unrelated thought: Last week at the park, someone said Isaac has Byzantine eyes.

gag

Isaac was eating fish. Then he said, "Mama, the fishies in the water. They swimming in the water." I looked over at what he was doing and tried not to think about it too hard. "They have legs," he said. No, they have fins, I corrected him. "Oh, fins. They swimming, look at they fins." Only with an imagination can fish meat chunks in your water become swimming fish with fins.

sweet fall

bellyfwops

"Mama," said Isaac, "Let's do wing awound the wosy."
"Mama," said Isaac, "Let's have bellyfwops."
 So bellyfwops were had.
And Isaac and Papa played some soccer too. Isaac was watching the women's soccer team practice and I think he picked up a lot of soccer strategies.

dress

Silly Isaac. He is wearing Mama's shirt as a dress.

Isaac is kind of into girls' clothing/shoes lately. I don't know exactly how to approach this. On one hand, I figure he may as well try on some of my clothes just to be silly. And after all, I think kids should be more gender-neutral at this stage. On the other hand, as much as he may have wanted them, he can't have the sparkly "ruby red slippers". But maybe this is a part of him figuring out gender roles? I don't know. I just know that he is cute and funny and likes to get a laugh out of everyone when he gets the chance.

celebration

"If Sunday is disregarded or abolished, only workdays are left in the week. Man, who was created for joy, degenerates into a workhorse and a mindless consumer. We must learn on earth how to celebrate properly, or else we will not know what to do in heaven. Heaven is an endless Sunday." -Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church, p 112.

Warning: This post might contain some of Mama philosophizing. Given that she does not have a degree in philosophy or anything related to that, it may or may not be theologically or philosophically correct. Or in logical order. Or PC. :) It's okay. You don't have to agree. Just think about it.

But first, let's talk about the more concrete purpose of our trip to Nana's this weekend. Yesterday was Auntie Anna's birthday! She is no longer a teenager. We took a drive to meet up with her at Nana's house. Isaac started out the long weekend (I didn't work Friday) in a festive manner, keeping us entertained with his songs in the car.

Some highlights so far were: going to the beach. This is a picture of Isaac and I standing where "Jump off Joe" used to be when I was little. It has since caved in and washed away, really in a significant way.

Isaac saw this rock from up above the beach and said, "It's a hippo in the water!"
Then this is from last night, from Auntie Anna's birthday. We went to Sada's and got a whole boat of sushi!
 It didn't last.
This morning (Sorry, I don't know why the pictures aren't in order. I am too lazy to reorder them.) we walked to Farmer's Market. We only had one stroller but we set London on Isaac's lap. He complained about it, but London must have been pretty comfy, because she started nodding off.

And this is one picture from back at Peter's birthday. Did I already post this? I feel like I forgot to post about that. I always feel weird posting pictures of other people's kids. Except, of course, baby London, who is technically our goddaugher.
And here is another one of London and Isaac.

So now that we are all caught up on that front.... back to the philosophizing.

blackmail

As I say in this video: Isaac, when you get married I will play this at the reception. Or show it to your fiancee.
Of course right now Isaac thinks this is hilarious.
