the pajamas-on amazon (10 months) - post #100!

On Monday, Isaac turned 10 months old. I was trying to get some video of him standing up in the middle of the floor, as that is his newest feat. He is walking all over the place now, which luckily has coincided with an increase in sunlight and warmth over here. Yesterday we played in the grass and sand quite a bit, while I tried to stick some onions in the ground. I bought some seeds yesterday at the nearby garden store, then realized I didn't have enough space for all the plants... So I will return the zucchini, and the peppers, I think. At least the zucchini. Those plants will be too big. It's a shame though, because I love zucchini. Oh well, someone else will probably end up giving us some huge zucchini sometime this summer and we will eat our fill of it and then some.
But, what I am going to grow, assuming nothing dies - is: mint (two varieties, I believe!), strawberries, garlic, a wildflower mix someone gave me, onions, potatoes, basil, and okra. Maybe tomatoes too. I'm going to check with our neighbor that is kind of sharing the plot I claimed last time to see what they are growing so we don't double up too much. Tomatoes can be canned though... Hm.. Well, I really don't have too much space, but I think it will be fun to see how everything turns out! I've never seen an okra plant before, so this should be fun.

Isaac has turned a new page in food testing ever since Sunday. He seems to want to try a variety of foods now, from saltines to tortilla chips to tapioca pudding (minus the tapioca pearls). The gagging seems to be decreasing. The other thing Isaac has been trying to eat is dirt. This is a big challenge to keep the dirt out of his mouth and nose. Finally, he also has been experimenting with drinking straight from the tap.

Here is Isaac on Monday, when he turned 10 months! I don't know how he got in this basket but he settled down with some good reads: my herb garden book and "Managing for Dummies". Isaac has recently demonstrated his ability to climb on many things - stairs at the playground and a box we had put in front of this little glass table we have to keep him from hurting himself with it. But, now that he can climb on the box, we figured the table would be the next step - so the box has been removed.

I have this cute photo frame my cousin gave to me where you put a picture from every month of the first year, and I'm hoping to get caught up on that before the break is over. I think the picture below is a good candidate for 10 months, given the size of each picture. Also, Isaac now has two fake cell phones. Hopefully this will distract him from the real thing. Hopefully.

Isaac is into just about everything now. It's good for him to be able to explore his interests, and it's a good exercise for me to ensure that most things are safe or out of reach!

And, here is our silliness from this morning.

A little Isaac in the pot! I think I will have to eat him for dinner, he is just so good. :)

Speaking of dinner - we have a lot of things left to do to get this house back in order before school starts back up next week! We'd better get to it.

Before we leave you for today though, we wanted to post a belated happy birthday to Great-Grandpa Wally, and an early happy birthday to Bumpa! We hope it stays sunny tomorrow like it was yesterday for you guys!

They thought he was a girl.

He has a little curl.
Not really in the middle of his forehead.
When he is good, he is very, very good,
And when he is bad he is still good.

2rice

This video is a little old.. but it goes to show you that mama doesn't learn quickly. You might have seen something similar before, but with a different outfit. Yeah.

Here, my friends, is the week in review. The Compaoré family went to Portland last Saturday. First, we stopped by a store we like, Caribbean Spice. They sell African foods as well as Caribbean foods (the owners are from Jamaica). We saw our friends Ben and Katie there, which is funny because they live in Eugene too!
Then, we went to the zoo. We saw the daddy elephant.
We saw the mommy elephant and the baby elephant too.

We even saw the lions, which weren't at the Portland Zoo before.

We went in a smelly place with tropical birds.

We also visited Auntie Nallely briefly before heading back to Eugene. Actually, we had a quick stop to visit Auntie Anna as well, and she had a delicious birthday present for Mama. Next time, we will have to visit more aunties and Uncle Greg.
The next day, Sunday, Mama turned 23. Nana and Bumpa and Great Grandma and Grandpa and Great-great Aunt Christy and Uncle George came to Mass in Eugene and then we all went to McGrath's for lunch. Mama wanted to go to La Perla which is supposedly serves la vera pizza napoletana (I didn't realize some people don't like in-line links but I love 'em so there you go!), but they were closed. McGrath's is always good though. We were a little concerned because we had heard they had gone bankrupt, but they were still serving food, and it was still delicious. I have to admit I am unsure about the true meaning of bankruptcy.

Isaac tried some crackers. He still seems a little unsure of many solid foods.

Finally, he had some real lunch and took a much-needed nap.
We went on a quick shopping excursion, and Mama found a few new clothes. Isaac discovered the ride on toys, but we didn't bother spending money to make them move when they were so fascinating at a standstill.

But then, tragedy struck. Isaac got pinkeye. We went to urgent care Sunday night. They said it was viral so he didn't need eyedrops, but gave us a prescription in case it didn't go away soon. In fact, maybe it is bacterial... because it still is not entirely gone.
So Isaac stayed home Monday....and Tuesday and Wednesday, with the help of our neighbor downstairs, Bumpa, and Great-grandma and Great-grandpa. On Monday we brought him to the doctor again because of a 103.1 degree fever, and they diagnosed him with early bronchitis and gave him antibiotics and an inhaler. However, he vomited up the antibiotics and any tylenol we tried to give him. Wednesday, we brought him back to the doctor because of the inability to keep the antibiotics down. Isaac's regular pediatrician saw him and decided it was instead viral and bronchiolitis. In the afternoon, he seemed really happy and playful. Thursday, Mama thought he was probably feeling okay so he could go back to daycare. But, that did not pan out. He was sent home around 12:30 with a fever. So, Bumpa came back to the rescue on Friday. Mama did not have a very good week scholastically. Hopefully the second week of 23 will be better. But let us not dwell on this; instead, I leave you with a few pictures of cute boys.
Here is a sweet little boy.
And I couldn't resist adding this because of the handsome man on the left.

Finally, no one can resist that fierce little face in this last picture. This is Isaac's new smile - I find it so funny and I don't know where he picked it up, but I think it is kind of going towards my smile, where my eyes get smaller...

We hope all our friends out there are in good health, and we really hope Isaac starts feeling better soon! He has been sick enough in this past month!

Anthony

Anthony - "worthy of praise"

One of the best things about being a parent is you are always pretty sure your child is the best in the world. Like Papa said the other day, "Well, Isaac is cuter than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's babies." (Actually, that's not too hard... I know a lot of babies who are cuter.. but you get the idea)

We are going to the zoo today and will have pictures when we get back!
