backlog

I'm going to recap the events of September in a backwards fashion.

The last week we were in Newport, it was nice out, so Isaac and I went down to the beach twice. Isaac now loves the water and wants to go swimming in the tidepools even though it is not safe. I'll post a video of him running at the beach later. :)

Before the last week, we went to the Mount Angel Oktoberfest for about an hour to get some food and dance a little bit.

And before that, Isaac and Papa explored Portland while Mama went to a laryngectomy conference at OHSU.

The weekend before that, we went to the Nativity Church picnic on Sunday, and Isaac played outside in the grass. He got upset twice because he ran off, then looked around and couldn't find Mama in all the people.

The day before, we went to our friend Freeman's outdooring and naming ceremony in Salem. Isaac had fun listening to the drumming and eating the food.

He had fun playing with some of Freeman's older sisters, Aurora and Josephine.

But, before that, we went to the Oregon Zoo. I have to say, I think Isaac enjoyed it more this time, being more grown up and all.

He saw turtles.

He saw schools of fish.

He even found out that Bouba is real.

But before that, on Friday, we went to the wedding of our friends, Micah and Brittaini, and Isaac got to play with their three fabulous children (only one of them is in the wagon with him).

Here they are cutting the cake! It was a great reception (we had trouble getting there on time so we missed the ceremony) and Brittaini's dress was beautiful.

Papa and Isaac enjoyed the garden outside the reception area.

The weekend before that, we spent some time at home. Isaac read books.

We also visited the ducks and geese at Alton Baker Park. Isaac wanted to go swimming with them, but we prevented him from fulfilling his wish.

The geese were so enticing.
Before that, Isaac couldn't decide what to wear, or which team to root for, so he settled on a win-win wardrobe.

The weekend before that, when we were coming back from Newport, we stopped by Avery Park in Corvallis. Isaac was interested in this old millstone they have there.

Before that, he found a special cart that he did not want to leave without kicking and screaming.

Before that, we watched a race, and before that, we smelled the roses in the rose garden there.

Before that, during the week, Isaac got to take a ride on Boompa's shoulders.
And before we left for Newport in the first place, we went to the Eugene Celebration. Not the actual celebration, but the free parts around it. Isaac tried to pedal the bike to make the smoothie. He had good intentions but short legs.
He got to pet a baby crocodile too.
And that, sweet Isaac, is a recap of all the things I failed to blog about while we were at Nana and Boompa's. We really had a great time, and got to do lots of fun things despite all the work!

Happy Thursday!

Here is Isaac from last week. He has thoroughly been enjoying putting lids on things.

Here he is from a party we went to. He was quite the party boy last week. We went to a "mixer" with CDS and CFT(Couples and Family Therapy) students. It was nice to get to know some of them. Then, the next day we went to a barbecue.
Saturday we went to Newport to my cousin's fiancee's bridal shower. It was a great time with great food on a beautiful day with a bunch of beautiful women that are in some capacity our family members. Not to brag. We just have some good looking family around. I guess we got lucky because that seems to be the case on all sides. Okay, I'll stop it now. :)
There was another baby too, but she was only 4 months old. She was so cute and tiny! I always forget how small babies are before about 6 months, but they are pretty small. They really are.
Here is the beach on a rare sunny day. Of course, there are no clouds because the wind blew them away, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.
Here Papa and Isaac are watching a kite, courtesy of the wind. My only lament about my camera is that the shutter time is a little slow... but I think the picture quality tradeoff is good. It really was a beautiful day at the coast.

And finally, here is Little Mister running around on the beach. It is funny just how active he can be in one minute.

tooth

Isaac is getting his first tooth. It is just barely peeking out of the gum. You can't see it in this picture because the flash messed it up, but just believe me and I'll get you another picture when it actually starts coming up. It's on the bottom left hand side. It is really fun - I've never paid attention to teeth coming in before but seeing that tiny little white spot is kind of cool! I'm not sure how to record this in his baby book. Does it need to be kind of coming up, or all the way in to record the date of his first tooth? I was thinking it might be cool to pretend it happened on New Year's, but it really broke the surface yesterday.
Yesterday we went to visit Grandma Hurliman again, now that we know how to get there. We will have to visit her every time we go shopping. Since we have to go so far to get anywhere worthwhile, I would much much rather go in her direction than to West 11th. She still likes Isaac. She was eating lunch when we came. It seems like she had good control of her glass when she was drinking her juice, and swallowed well. I'm not well versed in the ways of swallowing yet, but it seemed to me that at least she won't have to have purees right now. I felt bad for her tablemate - I don't think he was digging the puree too much.
We actually had a rather long journey out of the house yesterday. After visiting Great-great-grandma Hurliman we visited Isaac's cousins. He had so much fun playing! We forgot to borrow a push toy but we will next time for sure. Isaac and his cousin Malachai are going to have a lot of fun playing together in a few months. They are the only boys around here for now and already seem to get along well, in a boy sort of way. By that I mean they kind of fight over things and grab each other, and that's fun for them. We try to regulate the face grabbing but it's hard.
When we got home Isaac was content to jump for awhile.
Then we played around (okay, I played around) with his hair while he was taking a bath. He kept trying to get out of the bath yesterday, which is something he hasn't done before. I think he finally realized, "Hey, I don't have to sit here. I can stand up here too." So, we'll see how that pans out. I have a few more things I want to post before this year is over, but if Isaac wakes up from his 2.5 hour nap right now and it doesn't happen, Happy New Year 2010 to everyone! Bonne Annee!
