Halloween 2014

This Halloween, we carved Jack O'Lanterns with Ibrahim,
wore a cape with our Tinkerbell costume (Sonia said she wanted a cape),
dressed up as Batman for the third year in a row (when I asked Isaac what he wanted to be this year, he said, "Well, I have a Spiderman costume and a Batman costume. So I'll be one of those." I just love him.),
and got more candy than anyone could possibly need just by going around our little loop.
Senator Jackie (our neighbor!) was so sweet and actually gave Isaac the pumpkin basket. The handle of the one he had in previous years had broken, so he just had a little bucket at first. It's nice to have  good neighbors.

Moo

Pre-Halloween, we drove out Lorane Highway...
all three of us...

We pulled over to the side of the road...
And took a look...

At some real, live cows.

They were some miniature type of cow and they were really cute. Originally they seemed very interested when we pulled up, but soon ran away to the more distant parts of their pasture.

Then we went home and armed with this first-hand knowledge of cows, got ready for Halloween.
Isaac's costume had a perky tail.
And a hood that he kept on, surprisingly, most of the evening.
He found some sidewalk chalk and tried to liven up the entryway.
And we waited inside for trick-or-treaters to come by.

We trained Isaac to hand out the candy, which he did very well with some supervision (i.e. constant reminders). We love our little bovine. Hope everyone had a happy halloween! I think we may be finally on the mend (we've been sick a lot these past 3 weeks).

chicken feet: part 2

Here are Isaac's first Halloween pictures. But first, Isaac wants to show you how he is such a big boy sitting up on his own. We like to put him by the nursing pillow so if he falls backward he won't hit his head, but he is getting more stable every day!

Papa and Isaac went out to play while Mama studied. This seems to be the theme of every weekend. Only this time, Isaac got to wear a chicken suit. And that makes everything at least twice as cool.

Isaac started middle school too while he was at it.

Here is all the candy we had before we had trick-or-treaters. I got my $10 Single Check Rebate in the mail the day before and took it as a sign that we should buy candy to hand out. So we did and I got 24 cents back too! We weren't sure how many trick-or-treaters we would have because we live in apartments - but they are family housing, so we tried to get enough but not too much. Now's your chance to guess how much was left afterwards. Don't peek ahead.

So, here we are ready to hand out candy.

Sometimes we had to wait quite awhile between trick-or-treaters. Isaac just wanted to share the Halloween love with everyone.

Finally we got some trick-or-treaters! But they ran away before we could take a picture with them.

So back to his new play area Isaac went. It has kind of been an experiment but it seems like a cool option.

Here's Papa and Isaac being cool. Now's your last chance to guess about that candy.
Actually, we didn't do too badly! A little left over, but that was fine. Our sweet neighbor downstairs (the pediatrician, who has also let us borrow her vacuum once) made a little box of Halloween candy for Isaac for when he gets older. You can see it in the upper left hand part of the picture. And the rest of the candy? It went to the Education building and was half gone 3 hours later.
But of course, there are other pictures from between now and then. So, I may try to upload a few. I've been a little lethargic lately so no promises...

chicken feet: part 1

First of all, here is Isaac modelling some very cute socks that Shelley Winiger made for him. Aren't they awesome? They're really soft and comfy, and fit his feet just perfectly right now.
Now moving on to the meat of the story.
Haha. Did you get it? "Meat".. Okay, too many bad puns in Tests and Measurements.

We went to Isaac's cousin's birthday/ a Day of the Dead party last night and ate lots of good food and had lots of good conversation. Poor Isaac didn't seem to like his chicken costume much. I, on the other hand, thought it was adorable. Here you see him with his cousin Malachai (not the birthday cousin), who was a rooster. Too cute.
Isaac has been sitting up on his own lately.

And we were having such a good time...

before he toppled over! :( Poor little guy. At least that chicken costume cushioned his head and the carpet was soft.
He was a little cranky/overwhelmed at the party though. Finally at 9:30 we went home and both Isaac and I crashed. And now, here I am up at 5:00 in the morning because I started thinking about my research project and had a short kick of writing down what I was thinking about and looking some things up. I didn't really make much actual progress but I think it's always good to write things down. Otherwise, my brain can't seem to hold onto those ideas until the morning!
Today (Halloween) I believe we will go get some candy at Rite Aid(I got my single check rebate from that awesome diaper deal about 6 weeks ago!) and hand it out tonight. I don't know whether or not I will make Isaac dress up again, but, well, since I'm so excited about it being his first Halloween (although he probably doesn't share my excitement), stay tuned for part 2.
